SMHDC Announces Board Officers

ST. MARY’S HOME FOR DISABLED CHILDREN ANNOUNCES BOARD OFFICERS COO of Virginia International Terminals Assumes Board Leadership 

NORFOLK, Va. – March 27, 2009 – Richard N. Knapp, chief operating officer for Virginia International Terminals, Inc., has been appointed president of the Board of Trustees of St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children.

The Board selected Knapp during its March 26 annual meeting, which featured remarks by the Honorable  Ralph S. Northam, senator from Virginia’s 6th District and a pediatric neurologist.

“The staff of this organization are extraordinary at what they do,” Knapp said during the meeting. “I know the children are nourished by your involvement and caring.”

Knapp, who had been vice president of the Board, succeeds Michael P. Cotter, who served as president for two years and will remain on the Board. Cotter is a partner with the law firm of Vandeventer Black in Norfolk.

Knapp is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He is on the boards of the Norfolk Convention and Visitors Bureau and Festevents, which produces special events for the city of Norfolk, and he is a past chairman of the board of United Way of South Hampton Roads.

The Board also appointed Vincent A. Napolitano, president of the Napolitano Homes homebuilding company in Virginia Beach, as vice president. Thomas W. Godfrey Jr., president and CEO of Colonna’s Shipyard Inc. in Norfolk, succeeds Napolitano as secretary of the Board. George L. Consolvo, a partner with the law firm of Kaufman & Canoles in Norfolk, will continue to serve as treasurer.
